Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all maintenance activities to ensure maximum equipment reliability, plant availability and operational efficiency.

  • Plan, schedule and oversee preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes to minimise downtime and maximise equipment performance.

  • Lead the effective response to equipment breakdowns by coordinating repairs, conducting root cause analysis and implementing sustainable corrective actions.

  • Ensure all manufacturing equipment is installed, commissioned, maintained and operated in accordance with engineering standards, manufacturer specifications and company procedures.

  • Monitor plant performance and equipment reliability, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and increased operational efficiency.

  • Support the installation, commissioning, validation and optimisation of new machinery, equipment and production technologies.

  • Ensure all maintenance work is completed within agreed schedules, quality standards and approved maintenance budgets.

  • Manage maintenance job cards, work orders, maintenance records and technical documentation to ensure accurate reporting and statutory compliance.

  • Monitor and control maintenance expenditure, repair costs and contractor performance to achieve departmental budget objectives.

  • Manage critical spare parts and maintenance inventory to ensure optimal stock availability while controlling inventory costs.

  • Ensure compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Environmental, Quality and statutory legislative requirements applicable to the maintenance function.

  • Ensure machinery modifications, repairs and engineering changes comply with all regulatory requirements and internal engineering standards.

  • Conduct routine equipment inspections and maintenance audits to verify compliance with maintenance standards and identify improvement opportunities.

  • Investigate recurring equipment failures and implement preventative measures to improve equipment reliability and reduce repeat breakdowns.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving maintenance processes, plant performance, equipment reliability and operational efficiencies.

  • Prepare, analyse and present maintenance reports, equipment performance data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to management.

  • Plan, coordinate and execute maintenance projects and shutdown activities within approved budgets and agreed timelines.

  • Lead, coach, mentor and develop artisans, apprentices and maintenance personnel to build technical capability and support succession planning.

  • Coordinate technical support from specialist engineers, service providers and contractors where required.

  • Build strong working relationships with Production, Engineering, Quality, Procurement and other internal stakeholders to ensure effective cross-functional collaboration.

  • Act as the primary maintenance contact for production-related technical issues, ensuring effective communication and timely resolution of equipment concerns.

  • Ensure all contractors perform work in accordance with company standards, safety procedures and contractual requirements.

  • Participate in departmental meetings, toolbox talks, continuous improvement initiatives and technical problem-solving activities.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, asset histories and documentation to support compliance, audit readiness and business reporting.

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement and operational excellence throughout the maintenance department.

  • Perform standby duties, emergency call-outs and other maintenance-related responsibilities as required to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
